THE BATTLE ROYAL
MUCH MUSIC VS MTV WHICH IS BETTER?

Okay everybody knows who MTV is, not as many people know about Much Music, which is basically the Canadian Equivenlent. However, which is better? I guess it all depends on what you are wanting to watch. Contrary to its name, I very rarely see actual music on MUSIC TELEVISION (aka MTV), the only time I do see music on MTV is during TRL which in my opinion is the stupidest show because they play clips of videos with people talking about wanting to hear it during the video. And on MTV news, other then that all I ever see on MTV is television shows like The Real World, Road Rules, Daria, Celebrity Death Match and so on and so forth. Which arent bad shows per say but when one turns on MTV, especially someone who is from out of the country they are most likely looking to see some music video's. Now Much Music, well okay I am the first to admit that the VJ's are pretty dorky, and they dont always play the best music, but contrary to MTV, Much Music in about 80% music. They do have a couple telvision shows, like S Club 7, but for the most part, their programming is geared towards music. But like I said the are pretty cheezy, like today (April 22nd) for instance, it was top 10 list day, and some of these Top Ten lists were really weird. Like Top Ten Videos Made With Family Members, Top Ten Worst Canadian Videos, Top Ten Videos With The Most Dogs In It? I dont know who actually researches this stuff, but I suppose in retrospect it is kinda interesting. But basically the difference between MTV and Much Music is Much Music plays music. And Im not counting the spinoff channels like MTV2 and Much More Music either, just the plain old channels. Basically like I said at first, it all depends on what you are looking for who's better, if you want music then Much Music is the better choice, if you want TV shows then go with MTV, or any of the other top networks.

Napster is still under fire, as is all on line music/mp3 sharing. Due to various claims of copyright infringement napster may be shut down. The ongoing debate over the company has sparked heated arguments from both sides and their supporters. If you are looking to help in the conquest to save napster, you may want to look on their official website www.napster.com to find out what you can do to help. The first infringement claim came over a year ago, with the party claiming that they should be compensated for their losses through online sharing. The debate remains though whether or not online sharing should continue. Some say yes, as in retrospect it is a good way to obtain free advertizing. Logically speaking, online sharing is really no different then taping a song off the radio, or off a music channel etc. The downloaded music for the most part is not being reproduced, unless the downloading member has the proper equipment and software to do so. This in mind what is the harm really? One argument from napster opposition is that if the music is being downloaded for free, then people will stop buying the actual material. However, we have not yet met anyone who has been deferred from purchasing compact disks because of the availibility of on line sharing. Looking past it all though the real problem is money. The artist who are trying to ban napster complain they arent getting money from the on line sharing, and should be compensated for every song they have produced that is downloaded. Not all music artists are for the shut down of napster however, Limp Bizkit for example has been one of Napsters biggest suporters and during the summer of 2000 along with napster had a country wide tour where the tickets were free. This, along with music file sharing, opens the door of opportunity for those who can not afford the high prices of the music industy a chance to see the bands, and hear the music. Most concerts cost a minimum of $40 and up to attend, a price which is not affordable to everyone. Same applies for cd's, cassettes and video's. Some prices are so extreme that to some they are not affordible. Why should somone be denied that chance to listen to their favorite music, or see their favorite band because the prices are so high that in order to enjoy these luxuries you have to be making $60+ income a year? TNSI is in absolute support of napster and all music file sharing, and quite frankly those who are fighting to shut down this type of community, namely Metallica, are just bitchy billionaires, much in the same way that the XFL was invented, to combat the bitchy millionaires and get back to the basics of the business. Music is supposed to be an emotional expression, a form of entertainment that people are meant to enjoy. Football as well, however some of the highly paid entertainers forget along the way what the music is about, trading the knowledge for the all mighty dollar.
